Same conversation every time. Small firm, 5-20 people, need more clients. First thing they say — "we're thinking about hiring a salesperson." Or they already hired one and it didnt work out. Or they hired an agency and the agency burned through their money.
Its always the same cycle. I watched it enough times that I stopped recommending people hire and started asking why not just build something that does it for you.

SDR stays about 16 months. Takes 3-6 of those to ramp. You get roughly a year of output before theyre gone and you restart. Every departure costs $115-195k when you add recruiting, training, lost pipeline, and the hit on the team. 30-40% of in-flight deals die when the rep leaves.
A system — Smartlead, Google Workspace, WarpLeads, your own domains — runs $12-30k a year. Doesnt quit. Doesnt ramp. You own everything when its over.
Im not saying fire everyone. AI cant read a room or close a $50k deal over a handshake. But the grunt work — finding people, reaching out, following up, qualifying — should not require someone doing it manually 8 hours a day.
And when the agency leaves, you have nothing. No domains, no email accounts, no sequences. You rented their infrastructure. When you build your own — its yours. Thats the whole point.
